SAUL Hi there I’m … today I will talk to you about private and public funding, so let’s begin… Private funding are funds which are invested by an individual who is looking to possibly add more risk to their investment portfolio, or a high net worth individual with a keen interest in film.

YEAL An example of public funding is the British film institute or the BFI who will invest a small or large amount of money in a film or video that they like. Public funds are funds invested by the state or the government for a project or film that they like and would like to back. 

ELLA Is money that comes in from the government, often through taxes, that is used to help the public through goods and services, the funds are gathered and distributed. For your production the public funding will be available from the British film institute which is backed by the government and their funding. 

SAUL Another example is websites like gofundme.com and Kickstarter to name a few. These websites allow for director and film makers to post their ideas online and get the public to invest small amounts of money to total a big reward.

YAEL The difference between private and public funding is that public funding comes from a federal, state, or another publicly funded agency. Private funding does not entail public funds and may include both grants and gifts, depending upon the organization's mission.

ELLA Other option for funding includes the different film institutes and organisations around the UK who will fund films that suit their ethos and remit. The BBC also offer this, and the BBC films are committed to finding and developing new talent, primarily through agents and agencies.

SAUL You can also try and get product placements which will provide a lot of money as companies will pay a lot to get their products in a short film or film. This will provide your production with a constant stream of money as you will get paid every time the film is shown.
