Sitemaps and Wireframes

Sitemaps:
A list of the pages of a website 

Main types:
-those used during planning of a website by designers 
-the sitemap available for viewing online by those visiting a website 
-a structured list designed for search engines 

A site map is a list of pages of a web site. There are three primary kinds of site map: Site maps used during the planning of a Web site by its designers. Human-visible listings, typically hierarchical, of the pages on a site. Structured listings intended for web crawlers such as search engines. 

Advantages:
-easier to navigate
-better visibility to search engines
-links search engines
-changes made to the site immediately after they happen

Disadvantages:
-Setting the priority and last-modified date can affect the crawl frequency and on a large site with both frequently and infrequently changing content that can be very important.

Wireframes:

A visual representation of the framework of a website

Main types:
-to help arrange the site for a specific purpose 
-shows the website's layout 
-shows how different elements of the site interact with each other 
-can be hand drawn sketches or completed via online software 
-created by: business analysts user experience designers delvers and visual designers 
-expertise required: interaction design informed architecture and used research 

A website wireframe, also known as a page schematic or screen blueprint, is a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website. Wireframes are created for the purpose of arranging elements to best accomplish a particular purpose.

Advantage:

-Structure is clear
-Clarify the features of interface
-Help to refine navigation
-Make the design process iterative
-Saves time and effort
-Make Content Development More Effective

Disadvantage:

-Doesn't focus on colours, styles or graphics 
-Focus=functionlity-what it does, not how it looks
